Preferred vs. Actual Working Hours - A Ten Years Paneleconometric Analysis for Professions, Entrepreneurs and Employees in Germany

Labour market dynamics according the individual working hour tension (preferred working hours minus actual working hours) of active people with focus on the self-employed, as professions and entrepreneurs, and employees are investigated in our study. The individual longitudinal analysis based on panel data allows us to follow the individual process of working time preferences and actual outcomes in its individual convergence/divergence balancing process in the course of time. Our microanalytic and paneleconometric results (with pooled, one and two factor fixed and random effects models) quantify the working hour tension developments and its determinants in a decade from the mid 80s to the mid 90s. Microdata base is the German Socio-Economic Panel with ten waves from 1985 to 1994. Finally, we discuss impacts of our results for labour market strategies and a targeted economic and social policy

Development of brainstem-evoked responses in congenital auditory deprivation

    Get PDF
To compare the development of the auditory system in hearing and completely acoustically deprived animals, naive congenitally deaf white cats (CDCs) and hearing controls (HCs) were investigated at different developmental stages from birth till adulthood. The CDCs had no hearing experience before the acute experiment. In both groups of animals, responses to cochlear implant stimulation were acutely assessed. Electrically evoked auditory brainstem responses (E-ABRs) were recorded with monopolar stimulation at different current levels. CDCs demonstrated extensive development of E-ABRs, from first signs of responses at postnatal (p.n.) day 3 through appearance of all waves of brainstem response at day 8 p.n. to mature responses around day 90 p.n.. Wave I of E-ABRs could not be distinguished from the artifact in majority of CDCs, whereas in HCs, it was clearly separated from the stimulus artifact. Waves II, III, and IV demonstrated higher thresholds in CDCs, whereas this difference was not found for wave V. Amplitudes of wave III were significantly higher in HCs, whereas wave V amplitudes were significantly higher in CDCs. No differences in latencies were observed between the animal groups. These data demonstrate significant postnatal subcortical development in absence of hearing, and also divergent effects of deafness on early waves II–IV and wave V of the E-ABR

Part of: Thermally driven heat pumps for heating and cooling. – Ed.: Annett Kühn – Berlin: Universitätsverlag der TU Berlin, 2013 ISBN 978-3-7983-2686-6 (print) ISBN 978-3-7983-2596-8 (online) urn:nbn:de:kobv:83-opus4-39458 [http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:83-opus4-39458]In 2012 Vaillant launched their second generation of gas heat pump “zeoTHERM” to the European market. Since 2009 several zeoTHERM gas heat pump systems have been operating and analyzed as part of a field trial organized by Germany’s “IGWP” (initiative for gas heat pumps in Germany). This report shows the results of the field trial as well as the relevant solar simulations. The total system efficiency was proven to be 35% higher than a “state of the art” heating systems with a wall hung condensing gas boiler. The Vaillant zeoTHERM heat pump system was also proven to be extremely reliable and robust. Since 2010 zeoTHERM has been manufactured in series production and has been freely available in the trade

Multiphysical computations of the electrical machines using FEM

    Get PDF
In this paper three problems representing the multiphysical aspect of electrical machine computation are addressed. The interaction between magnetic and structural mechanical systems is demonstrated by the finite element method (FEM) structural investigation of the turbo-generator end-winding deformations. Multiphysical simulation of the acoustical problem is presented by weakly coupled electromagnetic, structural dynamic and acoustic simulations. And finally, a procedure based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation for acquiring the convective heat transfer coefficients is proposed in order to improve the accuracy of the coupled electro-thermal FEM simulations
